Doing Something Different Can Highly Motivate
It was time for me to begin finding new things to keep me busy, new ways to make friends, new ways to experience my local environment. I had never used meetup.com before, but decided to join the site to find local hiking events. One group has started a nearly-weekly Sunday evening hike that is for casual hikers. Wanted to meet people, experience the park, and do a little photography…without a lot of competition in getting to the top of the hill.
It was a very good group I found, it was fun, the hike was strenuous enough (the group would often stop at top of hills to let the whole group catch up and then take off again together), and the evening weather was great! Griffith Park is such an urban place that the lights of the nearby city (really, cities and neighborhoods) – Glendale/Burbank, Silver Lake/Downtown Los Angeles, Los Feliz and Mid-Wilshire – all provide enough light to get you back down the trail even without a moon.
As we gathered around some picnic tables to share food, I could see the Griffith Observatory outlined in the twilight as the sun set in the west. I got the unique pict I was hoping for. I will be back on the next Sunday event….
