The Great North of the West – Klamath
My review this week of past photos led me to this post…recalling a great previous road trip through Oregon and Northern California.
I have this in my list of recommended local places to visit (local to California) on this web site. False Klamath Cove in Del Norte County, California has been a favorite stop of mine. I have stopped here during a few trips through the area, over many years.
This is located within Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park. It is just north on California State Route 1 from the Trees of Mystery roadside attraction (home of the large statues of axe-wielding Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, and other oddities).

Reasons to Visit
It is usually a good point of some rest and stretching of the legs, as it is a long drive there from any large population center in Oregon, and a long way to go to Napa Valley and the Bay Area to the south in California. I have found that it is easy to park here, the walks on the beach provide much driftwood to encounter. There are, however, oddly beautiful views of that pileup provided by nature and views of sea/haystack rocks, and hiking trails that take you through a hill above the waves covered in a dense forest.
It’s on my list, next time I am north of the Bay Area and have dedicated some time to unwind in the northern counties along Highway 1.
